Plymouth RC Cathedral

The Cathedral Church of Saint Mary and Saint Boniface in Plymouth, is the seat of the Bishop of Plymouth and mother church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Plymouth, that covers the counties of Devon, Cornwall and Dorset. The Diocese was created in 1850 and in 1858 the new cathedral was opened under the patronage of the Virgin Mary and St Boniface, the latter thought to have been born in nearby Crediton.

The organ installed in 2022 is a customised Wyvern Concerto. It has 54 speaking stops over three manuals and configured with a large audio compliment to suit this large impressive building. The cathedral is also used by Royal Navy personnel stationed at the RN base at Devonport for the annual naval mass celebrated in July.

“My sincere thanks for the exceptionally high standard of instrument and installation of the new Wyvern Concerto 354 at Plymouth Cathedral. The console and large audio system is beautifully crafted and everything functions perfectly. The care and skill employed by Lyndon and Paul during the installation and voicing was very apparent and very appreciated. The Concerto 354 is beyond excellent, giving a warm, authentic English sound that will fill the Cathedral with music for many years to come. My personal thanks to you and all the team at Wyvern.” Robert Osmond Organist & Director of Music: Plymouth Cathedral.
